Daiki Hashimoto repeated his world championships record from two years ago after claiming the all-around gold medal at the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships.

In the final held on Wednesday (Oct. 22) at Indonesia Arena, Hashimoto scored a total of 85.131 points — 0.798 points ahead of China’s Zhang Boheng, who took silver, and Switzerland’s Noe Seifert, who won bronze.

Among the six apparatus, Hashimoto recorded the highest scores in three: floor exercise, vault, and horizontal bar.

The 24-year-old gymnast also earned the second-highest score on pommel horse — behind Seifert — third-highest on parallel bars, and fourth on rings.

With his all-around gold at the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, Hashimoto’s world championships gold collection now totals five.

The Narita-born gymnast had previously won one gold at the 2022 Liverpool world championships and three more in Antwerp in 2023.

Despite his growing list of titles, Hashimoto said he has no plans to stop.

“From now on, I hope maybe to make it four times in a row or even seven times,” Hashimoto said.

“Because I like striving for the best result.”

Hashimoto had been consistent since the qualification round, where he topped the standings with 83.065 points.

When asked whether the final was easier than qualifications since his final score was higher, Hashimoto said, “I think it’s not easier, [but] just more familiar.”

For Zhang Boheng, his performance in the final was an improvement from qualifications, where he ranked third below Seifert with 82.331 points.

Speaking about his silver medal, Zhang said, “Today’s performance was good, but not perfect.”

Zhang struggled to maintain consistency in the final. On horizontal bars, the 25-year-old gymnast placed fifth, and sixth on parallel bars — something he openly admitted.

“Parallel bars were not very good because I made some mistakes,” Zhang said during the post-event press conference.

For Noe Seifert, the bronze medal marked his first-ever medal in a major gymnastics tournament.

So, what was the key to his success this time?

“Training a lot, that’s all,” Seifert said, adding that the bronze meant a lot to him.

“This is my first medal at the world championships… amazing, I still can’t believe it,” said the 26-year-old Swiss gymnast.

Seifert was the only non-Asian gymnast among the top five in the all-around final standings.

The fourth and fifth places went to China’s Cong Shi and Japan’s Shinnosuke Oka, respectively.

When asked about being surrounded by Asian gymnasts in the top five, Seifert replied with a chuckle, “I don’t know, I’m just a Swiss guy doing gymnastics.”

“It’s normal that Asians are really strong in gymnastics. It’s nice for me, as a European, to compete with them. [It’s] tough, but that’s life.”
