Every step Abiyu Raffi and his teammates took onto the floor of Indonesia Arena, Jakarta, was filled with emotion — a mix of challenge, hope, and remembrance.
During the qualification round of the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships on Monday, October 20, 2025, Indonesia’s men’s team brought along the jacket belonging to their late teammate, Naufal Takdir Al Bari.
Naufal was supposed to compete beside them that day. However, fate decided otherwise. He passed away during a training camp in Penza, Russia, on September 25, at just 19 years old.
Determined to keep his memory alive, Abiyu and his teammates carried Naufal’s jacket onto the floor, holding it up as a symbol of his enduring spirit within the team.
“He should’ve been here with us. But still, we have to keep giving our best,” said team member Agung Akbar.
Competing in subdivision 7, the Indonesian men’s team did not make it to the final round.
Abiyu, the only Indonesian competing in the all-around category, finished 48th. His teammate Satria Tri Wira Yudha performed in four apparatuses—vault, parallel bars, high bar, and floor exercise.
Agung and Joseph Judah Hatoguan competed only on the pommel horse.
Though they fell short of qualifying, Abiyu, Satria, Agung, and Joseph agreed that competing at the World Championships was a meaningful experience—one that carried their late teammate’s dreams and determination, keeping his spirit alive in every performance.
