The men’s all-around final of the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, set for Wednesday (Oct. 22), will feel like déjà vu.
After two days of qualification, top names from the Paris 2024 Olympics — including Japan’s Daiki Hashimoto and China’s Zhang Boheng — are once again leading the competition.
Hashimoto topped the all-around qualification with a total score of 83.065, while Zhang finished third with 82.331 points.
The only surprise came from Switzerland’s Noe Seifert, who placed second with 82.499 points.
At the Paris 2024 Olympics, Hashimoto and Zhang also dominated the qualification round. Back then, Zhang ranked first with 88.597 points, while Hashimoto sat in third with 85.064.
The second spot in Paris was held by Shinnosuke Oka — who went on to win the gold medal in the final.
During the qualification at Indonesia Arena on Monday (Oct. 20), Oka still secured a place in the final, though he only finished 12th after sustaining a minor injury.
Tough Contest
In the qualification, Hashimoto and Zhang alternated as leaders across nearly every apparatus.
Hashimoto earned the highest scores on pommel horse (14.133), vault (14.533), and high bar (14.400), while Zhang led the rings with 14.600 points.
Both gymnasts shared the same score on parallel bars, each collecting 14.200 points.
Zhang briefly struggled during his fourth rotation on parallel bars when he failed to complete a Cassina catch-and-release.
On floor exercise, Seifert posted the top score of 13.633, followed by Zhang with 13.566. Hashimoto ranked fourth with 12.300.
